Fall and Spring Cleanups
Fall and Spring are great times! The fall season is a great prelude to football, Thanksgiving (more football), and the wonderful holiday season. Spring invites us out of the house to enjoy the warm sun and somehow is synonymous with cleaning and renewal.
That is why we choose the beginning of fall and spring to launch annual campaigns designed to help people clean their little corner of the earth.
All Prince William citizens are encouraged to participate, and to make the pot sweeter, we provide free trash bags, flyer (to promote your cleanup), and landfill vouchers (to help with the cost of trash disposal) to help you make things sparkle.
The Spring Cleanup Campaign will begin March 31st 2012 and run through June 31st. To get started, click here for the registration form.
Check out the links below if this is your first time organizing a community cleanup, or you're a seasoned pro who just wants to brush up on the basics.

Organizing a Community Ceanup
- Make good use of the flyers we offer to publicize your cleanup. Post the flyer in common areas throughout the community to bolster participation.
- Contact the local news outlet to see if they will do a write up of the event.
- Make sure you have enough gloves (latex and cotton) for every volunteer.
- Assign one volunteer to scout for recyclables, and only recyclables. That way you can make sure you are diverting as much litter as possible from ending up in the landfill.
- Plan an atlernate date in case of inclement weather or other unexpected issues that may arise. 30% of community cleanups each year are rescheduled.
- Make sure there's enough water and snacks for everyone.
