About Us The Prince William Clean Community Council, an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to a cleaner Prince William environment through litter prevention, environmental education and community involvement. With the full support of County government and the volunteer involvement of residents and businesses, the program is a community partnership for a cleaner Prince William County environment.
Organized in 1982 as a simple spring cleanup effort, the founding members of the Prince William Clean Community Council quickly recognized the importance of education to long-term success.
Our goal is to prevent littering. Our efforts are focused on educating citizens regarading proper waste habits, enhancing community awareness of the hazards/costs of littering and involving citizens of solutions to waste and litter problems. The Council is a recognized leader within this community and the litter prevention field. It is listed on Renew America's prestigious Environmental Success Directory as a model environmental program. In addition, numerous awards from trade organizations have identified our local program as the best of its kind in the Commonwealth and among the very best in the world. To insure continued success and future progress, the Council recently undertook the rigors of certification by the national Keep America Beautiful (KAB) organization, the undisputed authority on litter prevention issues in America. KAB?s rigid certification process included an organizational critique, an in-depth review of litter laws and practices, a county-wide photometric measurement of litter accumulations, and, of course, training in proven litter-prevention strategies. KAB's grassroots philosophy complements our results-oriented program and will benefit our community. Recent physical measurements and cost/benefit studies show that KAB communities are reducing litter by an average of 49% within three years of affiliation. Without a doubt, these are exciting times for the Council, our volunteers and Prince William County. Please continue to review our Web Site for an understanding of our efforts.
