Woodbridge, Va.—Transportation giant CSX presented a check for $1,000 to the Prince William Clean Community Council on Friday afternoon in Woodbridge.

The funds will help the council provide litter prevention and environmental education, as well as foster community involvement in keeping Prince William County clean, safe and litter free.

The Prince William Clean Community Council, an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, charitable organization. The mission of the council is to empower citizens and businesses to become self-sufficient stewards of the local environment through litter prevention, education and commu-nity involvement.

The council is one of several organizations participating in the Woodbridge Project 2010. Initiated by Supervisor Frank J. Principi, D-Woodbridge, Project 2010 is a yearlong series of 20 events that focus on volunteer service, neighborhood perseveration and the creation of a stronger sense of community in the Woodbridge District.

Several of the 20 events are community beautification projects to improve areas along the U.S. 1 corridor.

"The Prince William County Clean Community Council has been a tremendous help to me and my staff in all our efforts to create a new Woodbridge. I know they will maximize the use of the CSX grant," Principi said.

"It is truly an honor to be chosen by CSX for this award," Clean Community Council board chairman Terry Lane said. "The council looks forward to being a part of the Woodbridge Project 2010. We will continue to mobilize and encourage citizens and businesses of Prince William County to be good stewards of their communities."

CSX is the railroad industry's charter member of the EPA SmartWay Transport Program designed to promote voluntary reductions in fuel consumption and emissions. By supporting the Prince William Clean Community Council, CSX is working to promote a cleaner Prince William environment.
